The creation of learning events calls for elements of teaching, instructional design, development and technical background. Most everyone who has either the technical knowledge or even a background in teaching, is considered qualified to perform all of these roles without any further training. Sometimes, the newly hired individual will receive instruction in aspects of the role, but most often they are considered qualified to do the job without any additional training.

If instruction is given, it is most often related to the product or service for which instruction will be developed or the delivery mechanism. Instruction is almost never provided for how to structure the learning event.

In actuality, there is a scientific methodology for the design of instruction. Instructional Architecture: Designing Instruction That Works is a workshop that addresses the up front planning, pilot and revision activities that are needed for design of successful learning events. This workshop allows participants to quickly return to their job role and apply their learning effectively and efficiently. The workshop shows participants how to plan, construct, and test their design. This workshop is intended for anyone who has, or will have, responsibilities related to any aspect of the design, development and evaluation of learning events.

This two and a half day learning event can be offered either as a concentrated 2 ½ day event or in 5 half-day sessions over a 5 week period. If the second option is chosen, during each intervening week participants will have the opportunity to apply their learnings. Each subsequent session will begin with a review of participants experiences, learnings and questions.
